Tuesday 26 November 2024, 09:30 - 16:00
Royal Olympic Hotel, 28 Athanassiou Diakou, Athens
NGO Zeuxis is organising One-Day Event titled ‘’Safe Areas for Unaccompanied Migrant Children (Samos, Leros, Chios and Kos islands)” in Athens on Tuesday 26 November 2024. During the event, the results of the project by the same title will be presented. The project is supported by the Swiss contribution to reducing economic and social disparities in the EU and the Hellenic Ministry of Migration and Asylum and implemented by NGO Zeuxis in cooperation with the General Secretariat for Vulnerable Persons and Institutional Protection, Ministry of Migration and Asylum.
The event will feature speeches by representatives of the Ministry of Migration and Asylum and local administration authorities, the European Commission in Greece, and Civil Society, experts and field workers, followed by an interactive discussion. The aim is to present the results of the Safe Areas Project, to strengthen both the cooperation and coordination of involved stakeholders, and to foster strategic discussions on the protection of Unaccompanied Minors during first reception. Additionally, the event will highlight the way programmes of this kind further enhance the implementation of the European Union's New Pact on Migration and Asylum, aligning national and European efforts with its goals concerning vulnerable groups and especially Unaccompanied Migrant Children (UMC).
The Project aims to establish a primary support and assistance system for unaccompanied migrant children who arrive in Greece and are placed within the Safe Areas of the Closed Controlled Access Centres (CCAC) on the four Greek islands. Through this Project, NGO Zeuxis provides unaccompanied minors 24h/7 care and protection, snacks, non-food items (clothes, personal hygiene kits, etc.), psychosocial and legal support, best interest assessment, interpretation services, transportation, facilitation of access to health services and medication, educational and recreational activities.
