The General Secretariat for Vulnerable Citizens and Institutional Protection, in collaboration with
UNHCR GREECE, organized a study visit for a delegation of migration experts from the relevant authorities of Bulgaria, which took place on Monday, May 20th. Specifically, the Deputy Minister of Migration and Asylum, Sofia Voultepsi, along with the General Secretary for Vulnerable Citizens and Institutional Protection, Heracles Moskoff, and associates from the units of the General Secretariat, had the pleasure of welcoming members from the Responsible Committee for Migration under the Bulgarian government's cabinet, as well as members from the UNHCR of Bulgaria and Greece.
The attendees participated in a roundtable at the premises of the Ministry of Migration and Asylum, discussing the actions of the General Secretariat and receiving updates from the Bulgarian delegation on the current situation of unaccompanied children in their country.
The purpose of the visit is to co-organize a joint strategy between the aforementioned Committee and the UNHCR for Refugees in Bulgaria to create a corresponding protection mechanism for unaccompanied and separated asylum-seeking and refugee children, inspired by the Greek model, namely the National Emergency Response Mechanism.
On Tuesday, May 21st, a visit is scheduled for the delegation to Chios, with the purpose of touring the "Safe Area" of the Closed Controlled Structure for refugees in Chios. Additionally, during the visit, meetings are planned with
Zeuxis to describe the operation of the "Safe Area" and with the Administrator of the Closed Controlled Structure.
